Franklin D. Roosevelt (known by his initials, FDR) was the only US president to serve more than 2 terms prior to the 22nd amendment which introduced term limits. He was elected to 4 terms in office, from 1933 to his death in 1945. FDR is often ranked as one of the top 3 US presidents for ushering the nation through some of the most significant moments in modern history with his New Deal policies to combat the Great Depression and mass mobilization civilians and military during World War II. He previously served as the Governor of New York from 1929 to 1932 and had a notable wife in Eleanor Roosevelt, a well-known activist and the niece of Theodore Roosevelt.
