Spaceship Up, Spaceship Downelementary P.e. Games

Spaceship up spaceship downelementary p.e. games to play

After a devastating asteroid completely destroyed your space station – your astronaut buddies became lost – scattered throughout outer space! However, the time has finally come to launch a daring rescue mission, and pick up your stranded pals before it’s too late! Rocket Rescue is a challenging physics and gravity-based puzzle game where you must become the hero of the day, and save your astronaut colleagues by launching your rocket toward them (bearing in mind the power of the launch, and the gravitational pull of nearby planets and asteroids in the galaxy). You cannot affect the path of your rocket after lift-off – so make sure your launch calibrations and calculations are as accurate as possible!

This fun and unusual brain teaser requires a basic understanding of physics and gravity – as you have to adjust the angle of your flight path, and take into account how gravity will affect your spacecraft. Utilize your steady hand and problem solving skills to make the precise alterations needed to your spaceship’s course line. Patience combined with dogged determination is the key to success here as there is a lot of trial and error required. Can you calculate correctly and save your stranded astronaut comrades? Good luck Captain!

  • Grade level: 1-4 Equipment: None Game Description: This game of Space Invaders has nothing to do with the Atari videogame that you’re probably relating the name to. This version of a PE game gives players a chance to work on some basic movement skills (jumping, hopping, skipping, galloping, etc) in a type of tag game.
  • After 20 years of teaching secondary P.E. I am now teaching K-5 P.E. My first day of the year I followed your first day protocol (with a few minor adjustments to suit my style). At the end of the day I felt that I had my best first day of school ever!
  • Have two balls of different colors for 'spacecraft'. The boys form a circle and are numbered 1,2,1,2, etc. Around the circle. The two spacecraft start from opposite sides of the circle - one held by the Ones and one held by the Twos. At 'blast off' the space craft orbit around the circle, ones to ones and twos to twos.

How to Play: In each of the 30 increasingly difficult levels, you have to launch your rocket to collect the unfortunate astronauts scattered throughout space. These astronauts are in very awkward and dangerous locations for a rocket ship to reach, so you have to adjust your flight path accordingly. Using the Arrow Keys on your computer keyboard, adjust the ‘Power’ and ‘Angle’ of your flight trajectory. Up & Down Arrows adjust the Power; Left & Right Arrows adjust the Angle. The Power & Angle Levels are indicated along the bottom of the game screen. When you are happy with your intended flight path, hit Spacebar to launch your rocket. All going well, your rocket flies toward the astronaut – picks him/her up, and automatically zooms to the next level (in later levels, you have to pick up more than one astronaut per launch).

However, large obstacles such as planets and asteroids/meteors can, and will, dictate your rocket’s route to rescue your floating buddies. The gravitational pull of the planets alters the flight path by pulling the rocket toward the planet. This can be used to your advantage if your astronaut target is located behind a planet, and you need to steer the rocket around a corner (Remember, you cannot affect the rocket's flight once it has been launched). Larger planets have a greater gravitational pull. Grey colored asteroids have no gravitational pull, but act simply as obstacles. If your rocket crashes into a planet or asteroid, you have to go back and re-calibrate your flight path (this will happen very often in later levels, but luckily you have unlimited lives). Your rocket can bounce off the sides of the game screen without causing damage; However, each level is designed to be completed successfully without the need to bounce off the sides of the screen. When you hit off of one of the sides, your Fuel Level quickly reduces, so you cannot afford to be bouncing around for too long. Once your Fuel Level reaches zero, the rocket explodes and it’s back to the drawing board.

Note: Alternatively, you can use your computer mouse or touchpad to aim and launch your rocket. Aim using your cursor, and Left Click to launch. Unfortunately, this is much more difficult and less precise than with the Arrow Key controls (which we recommend using).

Mr. Bouncemasters 2

Everyone needs a couple of games in their back pocket that don’t take long to explain and they can play with kids quickly if they have little time at the end of a lesson or as a warm up at the beginning. For me one of those games is Noodle Dance Tag – It’s a classic freeze tag game except instead of being frozen you dance in place and do a fist pump.

See an explanation of the game below:

You can see how I explain the game to my students below:

Game Description:

For every group of 20 you should give 2 half noodles out to designated “taggers”. When the music starts they will run around and try to freeze as many people as possible. Nobody can be unfrozen, but when you are frozen you must do a designated dance (side step and fist pump)

Rules:

  • You can become frozen 3 ways
    • Getting tagged by a noodle
    • Going out of bounds
    • Falling down or sliding (stay on your feet)
  • No screaming

Safety Points:

  • Look where you are going, never look behind you while someone is chasing you
  • Move to open space
  • Do not tag people on the head

Management:

Spaceship Up Spaceship Downelementary P.e. Games Youtube

  • After 45 seconds, give a freeze signal and stop the music and have the noodle taggers hand their noodle to a player who has not been a tagger yet, student’s who haven’t had a turn can designate this by raising their hand quietly.
  • Continue play until everyone has had a turn to be a tagger, or until time runs out

Variations:

  • Allow students to make up their own dance.
  • Hand out more noodles to designate more taggers
  • Shorten the time limit or extend it
  • If you have a screen – throw up some “Sample Dance Moves” by copying this dance moves slideshow to give students some ideas for what to do when they are frozen (Warning: They might get SUPER excited about this… proceed at your own risk)

The kids love this game and request it all the time. It’s a great cardio game that leaves kids breathing heavy and smiling from ear to ear. Have fun and download the free Game Sheet for your lesson plans in my Resources Section or below.

UPDATE: a fellow Phys Ed Teacher Sara Wood came up with an awesome modification to slow your kids down if you want to check it out in her tweet below – just have all your kids balance bean bags on their heads – if they drop the bag – they must start dancing – Thanks Sara!

If you like Noodle Dance Tag – make sure to check out FIRE AND ICE TAGit’s a great follow up game once your students understand Noodle Dance Tag.

As always, thanks for stopping by and have an awesome day!
